A Psychological Autopsy Of Jesus Christ: A Telltale evidence for His Resurrection

His Resurrection… Is Our Celebration

We are in the Passiontide of His crucifixion, death and resurrection. We are very sure that His resurrection is the very basic stone of our faith and this forms the elixir of the resurrection of our body.

Yet, the resurrection of Jesus Christ has become a matter of debate for many. A large number of scholars have come forward to disprove the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but in vain.

There are definite historical evidences pointing for His resurrection.

  • The scriptures…
  • The broken seal…
  • The empty tomb….
  • The large stone (1-2 tone) which was moved, in spite of the Roman guards and seal
  • The behavior of Roman soldiers guarded the tomb and who went on absent without leave…
  • Appearance of Jesus Christ at several places after resurrection…. witnesses to Jesus' appearances
And much more which you might have learnt because of your enthusiastic mind.. Here I’m not going to explore all these historical evidences again but, to approach the event of resurrection logically and psychologically -- a psychological autopsy.

Let us begin…

The frightened disciples

The moment when Jesus Christ was arrested all the disciples who were with Him for three years left Him immediately. They lost their courage to accompany Him in public.
Then all the disciples deserted him and fled ( Mathew 26:56)

Jesus was brought before Pilate, and there He was spit upon, cursed, he was laughed at, whipped, beaten. And He was sentenced to die by the most extreme, shameful form of capital punishment ever devised — crucifixion.

Disciples were frightened like anything. They thought that they will be also murdered and killed for of was being with Him. The first disciple Peter even denied that he knew Jesus.  After Jesus was crucified and buried, they remained in hiding, afraid and depressed, and even thought of going back for fishing.

What happened on the third day ?

Mary and others came to tell them that Jesus had risen from the dead.

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.  And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,  but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.  While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing;  and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead?  "He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,  saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."  And they remembered His words,  and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.  Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles (Luke 24:1-10)

But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings only; and he went away to his home, marveling at what had happened.(Luke 24:11-12)

What happened later ?

Something happened to that small band of frightened and humiliated men. Less than two months later, they went back into Jerusalem boldly preaching, at the threat of death, that — JESUS CHRIST WAS RISEN!!

Why would these men, who had displayed such cowardice, risk their lives in going from city to city proclaiming the resurrection ? Had there been any visible benefits accrued to them from their efforts--prestige, wealth, increased social status, material benefits or anything ??

They certainly gained nothing for doing so.

In fact, as a reward for their efforts they were beaten, stoned to death, thrown to lions, tortured, and crucified for their preaching. Every conceivable method was used to stop them from talking.

Yet, they laid down their lives as the ultimate proof of their complete confidence in the truth of their message—The resurrection of Jesus Christ.

They were brave as a lion

Acts chapter 4:18-19, reads, "And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye."

And verse 20 reads, "For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard".

What did transform this cowardice into, bold lions?

It’s nothing but the

There is no event in the history of universe other than the resurrection of Jesus Christ which could explain this.

After the resurrection, Jesus met with his disciples on a mountain in Galilee and gave them a command to go out and evangelize to all people;

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:16-20).

After he had told his disciples to go out into the world and preach the word of God, Jesus ascended into Heaven;

After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. (Mark 16:19-20).

Do you still think that this whole episode was planned by Jesus and his followers?

Dear friend, just safely forget about the historical evidences and See that these men had sealed their testimony with their blood! They died a horrible and martyrs death! Do you think that it was for a lie, knowing it was a lie ? if so, can you even imagine a group of people in the history of universe who forsook all, were beaten, were jailed and even went so far as die for a lie — KNOWING it was a lie!
So there is no way, these 12 men could have all been deceived.
Still you can’t belive ?
There's the man called Saul of Tarsus.Saul of Tarsus thought Jesus was a false messiah, a fake, a blasphemer. And to exterminate Christianity totally, became his passion! The Bible describes him:
"As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison." (Acts 8:3)
"And Saul, yet
breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, . . ." (Acts 9:1)
Saul of Tarsus was one of Christianitys' most rabid persecutors. One day traveling the dusty road to Damascus, Saul burning with vengeance, with documents authorizing him to capture all the followers of Jesus. But on the road to Damascus something happened to Saul of Tarsus. . .
"And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest". (Acts 9:3-5)
And on the road to Damascus, the greatest conversion in history took place! For Saul of Tarsus, among the greatest enemies of Jesus Christ, that ever lived — became the Apostle Paul, THE GREATEST CHRISTIAN THAT EVER LIVED!
What could so transform this man, that he completely dedicated his life to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ? And was later beheaded at Rome in 67 A.D. for his faith in Jesus Christ.
There is only one possible explanation
Denying the resurrection of Jesus Christ is equivalent to creating darkness by closing eyes. You have to close your eyes to these facts and to the overwhelming facts of history which I did not explained here.
What is next?
If Jesus Christ has died and resurrected, you need to do an important and serious task - Receive Jesus Christ as your Savior.
  • Know that you're a sinner.

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" Romans 3:10
"... for there is no difference. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23

  • Know that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for your sins.

"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, ..." 1 Peter 2:24
"... Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood," Revelation 1:5

  • Trust Him, and Him alone as your Savior.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

I mean trust only. The rest – religion, baptism, sacraments.. will later become the part of life style.
But the moments you fail to trust Him, you could be one year, one month, one hour, one minute, one heartbeat, away from the eternity.

Let’s take a firm step ahead into eternity.

Sin is a disease... It should be treated.

We are living in a world where everyone is quite cautious about their health. The medical science is advanced to such an extent that we can manage even some deadly diseases like schizophrenia, cancers etc.. New health programs and Health schemes are being introduced by nations and organizations to improve our the healthcare system.

The medical science defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity [WHO]. I think this definition is applicable to veterinary science only as it doesn’t say anything about the spiritual well being.  And what this medical science trying to provide is a veterinary health and not healthcare needed for a human.

Unlike other animals we have a spiritual existence which is more important than the bodily existence. So health should mean a spiritual well being too. Our current medical system is incapable of providing this.
Who can provide a spiritual well being ?
What is a spiritual disease ?

Sin is the disease that affects our spiritual existence. In our culture the concept of sin has become entangled in legalistic arguments over right and wrong. When many of us consider "What is sin?" we think of violations of the Ten Commandments. Even then, we tend to think of murder and adultery as "major" sins compared with lying, cursing, or idolatry.
But sin is an a morally bad act which violates the Divine law. And this act prevents us attaining the perfection established by the God and Evidenced by the Christ.
interior causes
  • Ignorance (on the part of the reason)
  • Infirmity or passion (on the part of the sensitive appetite)
  • Malice (on the part of the will)

exterior causes
  • devil
  • man (who move to sin by means of suggestion, persuasion, temptation and bad example)

Cosmopolitan in distribution (Anyone who is born as human being can be affected)
The act of infirmity or passion from the part of the sensitive appetite is also found in animals. It is not a sin for animals but, just an act.

As regards the activities involved, into sins of
  • Thought
  • Word
  • Deed

As regards their malice, sins are distinguished into sins of
  • Ignorance,
  • Passion or infirmity,
  • Malice;

As regards their gravity, into
  • mortal
  • venial

This last named division is indeed the most important of all and it calls for special treatment.
Some further distinctions which occur in theology or in general usage.

Material and formal sin: An action which, as a matter of fact, is contrary to the Divine law but is not known to be such by the agent constitutes a material sin; whereas formal sin is committed when the agent freely transgresses the law as shown him by his conscience, whether such law really exists or is only thought to exist by him who acts. Thus, a person who takes the property of another while believing it to be his own commits a material sin; but the sin would be formal if he took the property in the belief that it belonged to another, whether his belief were correct or not.

Internal sins: Three kinds of internal sin are usually distinguished:
  • delectatio morosa, i.e. the pleasure taken in a sinful thought or imaginat ion even without desiring it;
  • gaudium, i.e. dwelling with complacency on sins already committed; and
  • desiderium, i.e. the desire for what is sinful.

The capital sins or vices: a capital vice is that which has an exceedingly desirable end so that in his desire for it a man goes on to the commission of many sins all of which are said to originate in that vice as their chief source". It is not then the gravity of the vice in itself that makes it capital but rather the fact that it gives rise to many other sins. These are enumerated as vainglory (pride), avarice, gluttony, lust, sloth, envy, anger.

Mortal and Venial sin:
Mortal sin - something said, done or desired contrary to the divine law, or a thought, word, or deed contrary to the eternal law which avert from us our last end.
venial sin is also contrary to the Divine law, although not averting us from our last end

Site : The Human spirit.

It Affects the spirit and destroys the spiritual features which is the key language of the eternal life. Thus it avert man from his true last end, and deprive his spirit of sanctifying grace.

It is the deadliest disease that mankind has ever seen; AIDS, Schizophrenia or any other disease is an exception. If you have sin which is not treated properly, then you lost everything. You could not enjoy the beatific vision.

Signs and Symptoms

Only a small fraction of sins are executed through the body. The man will behave according to the nature of the sin.

In rest of the the conditions the man is affected with sin (even with most severe form) but some external factors ( law, society) or internal factors ( personality, status in the society) prevent the sin being executed. It is as if someone is infected with AIDS and being in the window period. When the conditions become favorable all the features will be manifested.

That is what was trying to happen in India when a group of people because of their unopposed sensual appetite and evil desire to get release of dopamine in their brain, want to legalize homosexuality and euthanasia.

It can be understood by our finite intelligence.

Sin impresses him with a salutary fear, a fear of his own powers, a fear, if left to himself, of falling from grace; with the necessity he lies under of seeking God's help and grace to stand firm in the fear and love of God, and make progress in the spiritual life.

Without the acknowledgment that the present moral state of man is not that in which God created him, that his powers are weakened; that he has a supernatural end to attain, which is impossible of attainment by his own unaided efforts, without grace there being no proportion between the end and the means; that the world, the flesh, and the devil are in reality active agents fighting against him and leading him to serve them instead of God, sin cannot be understood.

One can realize his sin as fall in spiritual life.

We cannot avoid sin by our own strength but, with God's grace we can. If we place no obstacle to the workings of grace we can avoid all deliberate sin.
Adhere to the sacraments, liturgy, word of God and Catholic teachings. Then none of the above mentioned causes even the evil spirit can lead you to sin.

JESUS CHRIST - the panacea

Sin has its remedy in grace, which is given us by God, through the merits of His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, Who has redeemed us, restoring by His passion and death the order violated by the sin of our first parents, and making us once again children of God and heirs of heaven.

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives" (1 John 1:8-10)

The medicine is already ready. We just need to take it.

You all may not have that 6/6 vision to see the light of world, Jesus Christ.

Some simple but treatable reason are:

  • Willful closure of the eye  ie.Persons who know Jesus Christ as God and denies Him willfully because of some pleasurable ways of life ( eg. Some politicians)
  • Congenitally blind ie. Persons who are subnormal intelligent and hence they couldn’t know God
  • Developmental errors due to nutritional insufficiency ie. Those who didn’t see the real light and hence considered something else as light eg, peoples who worship the natural phenomenons.
  • Pterygium i.e. persons who are born in a culture where no one is enthusiastic or bother to know Him.
  • External obstruction i.e. As if something or someone closing the eye from outside eg, this refers those who came to know Him but failed to accept Him because of some personal, social, or religious problems.
You shall not worry for any of these conditions. He will come in search of you. He is so loving. He will not let to loss anyone.

"Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear," says Isaiah 59: 1-2.
Let us know our sins including those which are not executed. let's give up our sins.
Let's sanctify ourselves in this Passiontide….

God Bless You
